Officers in Texas received a disturbing 911 call reporting an attempted sexual assault in progress. According to initial dispatch information, the suspect had first met the victim and her husband earlier that evening while they were out at a bar. Over drinks, the suspect suggested to the husband that they could continue the night elsewhere. The victim, however, asked to be taken home.
The three of them left together in one vehicle, stopping to drop the victim off at her residence, with the suspect still in the car. The suspect and the husband went to another bar to drink, and the husband eventually passed out. Seizing the opportunity, the suspect left and drove back to the victim’s home, he entered the residence armed with a handgun.
Inside, he attempted to sexually assault the victim and threatened the life of her young child. The situation escalated to a horrifying moment when the suspect pointed his gun directly at the child. Acting in desperation, the victim struck the suspect. The blow caused him to discharge the weapon, shooting himself in the leg. He then fled the scene in his vehicle.
When officers arrived, they faced a major investigative challenge: the victim and her husband could only provide a vague physical description, the suspect’s first name, and a phone number (exchanged earlier in casual text messages between the suspect and the husband).
That’s when a responding Patrol Sergeant leveraged ForceMetrics. By running the phone number through the Velocity™ platform, ForceMetrics instantly connected it to a full identity, providing law enforcement with a confirmed suspect profile in minutes. This is information that might otherwise have taken days to uncover through traditional investigative methods. The rapid identification allowed officers to positively confirm who they were dealing with and circulate his information to partner agencies.
Several days later, working with this intelligence, the U.S. Marshals Service located the suspect hiding in a motel. He was taken into custody without incident. The suspect was ultimately tried, convicted, and sentenced to life in prison — a case where decisive action, courageous victim intervention, and the strategic use of ForceMetrics ensured justice was served.
