
While conducting a proactive follow-up on a theft investigation, an analyst at a university RTIC reviewed images of potential suspects and immediately recognized one of the individuals from a previous incident at the same business. Turning to the ForceMetrics Velocity Platform, the analyst searched the known offender's profile and leveraged the associated people feature to identify 22 known associates connected to that individual.
To narrow the search, the they filtered the results to female associates, reducing the list to nine potential matches—three of which had booking photos available within Velocity. By comparing those photos to the suspect images, they were able to positively identify the second suspect.
The investigation continued to gain momentum as the analyst explored the newly-identified suspect’s profile in Velocity. Records revealed that the individual was already wanted for questioning in connection with a similar theft case investigated earlier in the year. Also highlighted was a prior fraud case linking the two suspects, giving investigators access to body-worn camera footage from that incident. Comparing that footage to the current suspect images provided additional confirmation of the identification.
As the analyst expanded the search, ForceMetrics uncovered several other cases connecting the two individuals across records maintained by multiple law enforcement agencies. These connections provided investigators with a more complete picture of the suspects’ history and associations, helping strengthen the case and accelerate investigative leads.
